In a stunning finish in Las Vegas, Jonathan Byrd (DryJoys Tour style #53754) won a three-man playoff with a hole-in-one on the fourth extra hole.
After finishing the third playoff hole at #18, Byrd, Cameron Percy and the third competitor debated whether to keep playing the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open because of darkness. They all decided to go one more hole Sunday -- the 204-yard 17th at TPC Summerlin.
And it essentially was over with one swing.
Byrd was first to tee off with a six iron. His shot landed about 10 feet short of the flag and disappeared into the cup. It was so dark Byrd wasn't even sure it went in. All he had to do was wait for the other competitors to hit their shots before celebrating his first win of the year and fourth of his career.
Almost as stunning was that Byrd remained in the playoff. On the third playoff hole, the par-4 18th, Byrd's approach tumbled over the green and was one hop away from going into the water. Instead, it settled in a clump of grass, he chipped up to 7 feet and made the par putt just to stay alive.
"I'm in shock," Byrd said, certainly speaking for everyone watching another Fall Series thriller.
This one was even more incredible, and it came at just the right time. Byrd was No. 117 on the money list going into Las Vegas, and his fourth career victory gives him a two-year exemption.
Appropriately enough, Byrd's thrilling victory was also the first win for DryJoys Tour™ - a new category of performance golf shoes born from a 21-year heritage as the #1 all-weather performance shoe in golf.
